At riskAfter school, many children and youngsters in townships have nothing to do but hang around the streets. Most families are headed by women - mothers and grandmothers - who are often the only breadwinner. So, during the day, many kids have to take care of themselves, which is not easy especially in a township. More often than not they witness drug and alcohol abuse, crime and violence. By offering children a place where they are safe we ease the burden on their mothers and grandmothers.
Activity-based learning and funMost township schools do not have the resources for sport and games, arts & crafts, drama, dancing or making music. We therefore support local projects for out-of-school care that offer children and youngsters activity-based learning and fun. This also involves assistance with homework and reading, life skills, maths, English and computer classes.
